I am all about quick and easy meals that’s why I love using the air fryer. There are so many things you can cook up, including one of my favorites, air fryer chicken sausages.

The first time I made hot dogs in the air fryer, they turned out so good I thought I should try chicken sausage. Let me tell you, they turned out so good! They have a delicious slightly crispy outside and are hot and tender on the inside. Such a good meal that is perfect for a busy night.

Ingredients

One main ingredient is all you will need. Chicken sausages are the star of this recipe.

Package of chicken sausage and an air fryer basket.
  • Chicken sausage – You can use your favorite brand of precooked chicken sausages. I like Aidells, Al Fresco, Hillshire Farm, and Applegate.
  • Optional – Oil spray. If you like your sausage extra crispy on the outside, you can lightly spray with olive oil spray.

Heather’s recipe tips for the best chicken sausage in air fryer

  • I make sure not to overcrowd the basket. I recommend trying not to overcrowd the air fryer basket with sausages. This helps the hot air to circulate and cook evenly.
  • I like to flip halfway through cooking. This helps to make sure they cook evenly.
  • Check the internal temperature. You will know the chicken sausages have finished cooking when the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
  • Cooking time may vary. Every air fryer tends to cook a little different. That’s why I like to check on the sausages after 8 minutes of cook time. You might need to add an extra minute or two.

How to serve air fryer chicken sausage

I like serving air fryer chicken sausages with a wide variety of side dishes like air fryer Alexia sweet potato fries, pea salad, grape salad, and more.

They are also great served in a bun topped with peppers and onions.

Storage

Store: Keep any leftover chicken sausages in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freeze: These sausages can be frozen and stored in a freezer safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. They can be reheated in the air fryer at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes.
