My copycat Chicken Salad Chick grape salad is a cold, creamy sweet salad that is the perfect side to bring to a cookout, holiday, potluck, and more. Grapes are covered with a cream cheese dressing and topped with a sprinkle of brown sugar and chopped pecans.
Since moving to the West coast I have been missing going to one of my favorite lunch spots, Chicken Salad Chick. They are known for their delicious chicken salads and broccoli salad but one of my favorite things to order is the grape salad.
Since they don’t have any restaurants close to me, I knew I had to try to make a copycat version. This grape salad really is so simple to make and the perfect side dish for BBQ’s, holidays, potlucks, and more.

Ingredients you’ll need
Grapes are the most important ingredient in this fruit salad. You can use red grapes, green grapes or a combination of both. I am using about 4 pounds of grapes in this recipe which equals about 10 cups of grapes.
1 pound of grapes = about 2.5 cups of grapes
- Grapes – Use seedless grapes. Make sure to wash the grapes and remove the stems.
- Cream cheese – Softened cream cheese.
- Sour cream – Full fat sour cream.
- Sugar – Granulated sugar is used for the cream mixture.
- Vanilla – Vanilla extract adds an extra layer of sweetness.
- Brown sugar – Light brown sugar is sprinkled on top.
- Pecans – Chopped pecans or chopped walnuts add a little crunch.

Step three: When ready to serve, sprinkle the brown sugar and chopped pecans on top of the grape salad.
Heather’s recipe tips
- Cream cheese: Be sure you give the cream cheese enough time to soften to room temperature. This helps get a nice creamy texture.
- Full fat: I recommend using the full fat sour cream and cream cheese for the best texture and flavor.
- Grapes: Use red and or green grapes. If they are large, you can cut them in half before making.
- Chill time: Make sure to allow time for the salad to chill before serving. An hour of chill time is great but even longer is better.
- For a crowd: This recipe can be doubled for a large crowd.
- Store leftovers: Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Grape salad variations
Want to add a little something extra? Try some of these different variations.
Grape salad with apples: Stir in some diced apples to add extra crunch.
Grape salad with Butterfinger: Try adding in some chopped Butterfinger candy or even Snickers for a sweet treat.
Grape salad with marshmallows: Stir in or top with mini marshmallows.
Can you make grape salad ahead of time?
Yes, if you want to make this the night before, mix together the cream mixture and grapes. Cover and store the night before. Add the brown sugar and pecans right before serving.
Serving suggestions
This cold, creamy grape salad pairs well with a variety of dishes like BBQ chicken, ribs, chicken salad, pork tenderloin, and more.
Recipe FAQ’s
I recommend setting out the cream cheese on the counter 1-2 hours before making the salad. If you have to soften the cream cheese fast, unwrap the cream cheese and place on a microwave safe plate. Microwave for about 20 seconds to soften.
There are about 2.5 cups of grapes in one pound of grapes.
