I always keep a box of frozen potato skins in my freezer for a quick snack or appetizer. They are so simple to make and after cooking them in the air fryer, I won’t prepare them any other way.

The first time I tried cooking frozen potato skins in the air fryer I was in a rush to make a quick snack for friends coming over because I totally forgot to preheat the oven. I decided to try them in the air fryer and hoped for the best.

I couldn’t believe that they actually turned out better in the air fryer compared to the oven. The edges were crispy, the cheese melted perfectly, and the best part they were much faster to make.

My husband could even tell a difference in the texture of the potato skin. We all thought they were much crispier. Now using an air fryer is the only way I will make these along with most frozen food.

Why air fryer frozen potato skins work

  • Crispy skins – The air fryer circulates hot air around the potatoes giving them the best crispy skin.
  • Fast – This simple recipe can be cooked straight from frozen and made in about 5 minutes.
  • No extra oil – No additional oil is needed to cook these potato skins.
  • Convenient – Super fast and easy clean-up make this a convenient, quick snack.

What you need

  • Frozen potato skins – Use your favorite brand like TGI Friday’s potato skins or Farm Rich froze potato skins.
  • Air fryer – We are using a basket style Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer. They can also be cooked in an oven style air fryer. Place them on the middle rack.

Step one: Place frozen potato skin in the air fryer basket. Make sure to put them in a single layer with room for the hot air to circulate.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Put them in a single layer. You want to make sure your potato skins aren’t on top of each other and are placed in a single layer. This helps with even cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. I recommend not putting too many frozen potato skins in the air fryer basket at once.
  • Cooking time may vary. Each air fryer model cooks a little different.

Potato skins topping ideas

These skins are wonderful by themselves and always a crowd pleaser but you can also add some favorite toppings for loaded potato skins. A few topping ideas include:

  • Sour cream
  • Green onions
  • Bacon bits
  • Jalapeños
  • Salsa
  • Guacamole
  • Extra cheddar cheese
  • Ranch dressing

What to serve with air fryer frozen potato skins

These skins are great on an appetizer tray or platter. Try serving them alongside other favorites like air fryer nachos, air fryer pizza rolls, air fryer frozen jalapeno poppers, and air fryer cheese curds.

How to store leftovers

Store: Leftover potato skins can be store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Make sure they have completely cooled before storing them.

Reheat: Reheat by placing them back in the air fryer at 380 for about 2 minutes.

Freeze: I would not recommend refreezing.
