One of the easiest and best things to make in an air fryer are French fries. We cook all different types of fries like waffle fries, sweet potato fries, homemade fries, and tater tots.

I think cooking frozen steak fries in the air fryer is the best way to achieve restaurant style fries. The air fryer cooks by circulating hot air around the food so French fries come out with a perfectly crispy texture on the outside while staying hot and tender on the inside.

Why this recipe is so good

  • Cooking frozen fries in the air fryer couldn’t be easier and it’s so much better than frying them in oil.
  • Great for a simple side dish or snack for even the pickiest eater.

Ingredients needed

Frozen steak fries – Pick your favorite brand of frozen steak fries. I am using Ore-Ida for this recipe but feel free to use what you enjoy like Red Robin steak fries or store brand. If you use a brand that comes pre-seasoned you won’t need to add anything extra.

Seasoning – Seasoning is not required but adds some extra flavor to the fries. I like using a little French fry seasoning but you can also use seasoned salt or sea salt.

Air Fryer – I am using a Cosori, basket style air fryer. This will also work with an oven style.

How to make frozen steak fries in air fryer

  1. Place frozen steak fries in the air fryer basket. Spread them out in a single layer so that they cook evenly.
  2. Cook at 400 degrees F for 6 minutes. Flip the fries and cook another 6-7 minutes at 400 degrees.
  3. Season the fries and serve warm.

Recipe tips

These fries cook straight from frozen. No need to thaw them.

Cook time may vary depending on the air fryer and how crispy you like your fries. If you prefer more crispy fries, add an extra 2-3 minutes of cook time.

Frozen fries are precooked in oil so they don’t need any extra.

Make sure to toss or flip your steak fries halfway through cooking. This helps them cook evenly.

If you are cooking the whole bag, I would recommend cooking in 2 batches. You want to try and cook them in a single layer.
