I always like to have a good dip ready to serve when it’s snack time, party time, or the holidays. This green onion dip has been a staple in my kitchen for years, and is one that I keep coming back to again and again.

Even though it’s a simple recipe, it packs a punch when it comes to taste. Even my kids request it for an after school snack, which says a lot coming from picky eaters.

One thing I love about this dip is the creamy texture combined with the crunch of the green onion. You don’t need any mayonnaise for this recipe, it uses a mixture of soft cream cheese and sour cream.

This is one of those go-to recipes that is nice to have on hand when you are in a pinch and need something delicious, but fast and easy to make.

Step one: Mix together the softened cream cheese and sour cream until creamy.

Step two: Mix in lemon juice, seasoned salt, and pepper.

Bowl of beaten cream cheese with seasonings and mixer.

Step three: Stir in the parsley and green onion until combined.

Bowl of mixed cream cheese, diced green onion, and fresh parsley.

Step four: Cover the bowl or transfer into an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for at least an hour to let the flavors come together.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Soften the cream cheese. This is an important step not to skip. Set the cream cheese out at room temperature about 30 minutes before mixing. This helps eliminate any lumps and makes it creamy.
  • Dice the green onion small. Slicing it small helps it to be easier to scoop and eat.
  • Let it chill. I recommend letting the dip chill in the refrigerator at least an hour before serving. This allows the flavors to come together.
