Pasta night is a favorite in my house, but sometimes I like to switch things up from the usual spaghetti. That’s where my ground beef alfredo recipe comes in. It’s a creamy, comforting twist on a classic, and one of my kids favorite dinners.

The best thing is that it comes together in about 30 minutes, which is great when we have busy nights during the week.

This recipe is super simple, it kind of feels like I’m cheating using jarred sauce, but it helps to make it fast and easy. I love that this has the same feeling and similar taste as Hamburger Helper, and that it’s made with just a few pantry staples.

If you want other ways to use your ground beef try this ground beef and rice casserole and cheesy mac with ground beef.

  • Ground beef – I like to use a lean ground beef for this recipe so that there isn’t much extra grease.
  • Pasta – I am using large elbow macaroni but you can substitute with small pasta shells, rotini, penne, and fettuccini pasta.
  • Alfredo sauce – Use your favorite jarred alfredo sauce or a homemade sauce.
  • Seasonings – Italian seasoning, salt, and ground black pepper
  • Optional – Parmesan cheese, diced green onion, parsley

How to make ground beef alfredo

Step one: Fill a large pot 1/2 full with water. (At least 4 cups of water.) Bring the water to a boil. Add 1 teaspoon salt to the boiling water. Add the pasta and boil according to package directions. Once pasta has finished cooking, drain off the water.

Step two: While the pasta is boiling, cook ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Make sure to break up the beef while cooking. Cook until it’s browned.

Step three: Stir in Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, ground black pepper, diced onion and cook for 1-2 minutes. Stir in minced garlic. Stir in the creamy alfredo sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes or until warmed through.

Tips for success

  • Try using a large, deep skillet for this recipe.
  • Drain off any excess grease from the ground beef. This will help prevent the sauce from being too thin and greasy.
  • Don’t forget to add the salt to the pasta water. This adds flavor to the pasta.

Variations

You can easily adjust this recipe to your taste. Here are a few examples for substitutions and variations of this dish.

Pasta – Substitute the macaroni with shells, penne, rotini, mostaccioli, or even egg noodles.

Protein – Try substituting the ground beef with ground turkey, ground chicken, or ground bison.

Vegetables – Want to add some color and veggies? You can mix in diced bell pepper, steamed broccoli, peas, or diced carrots.
