I am the type of person that can eat dip as a full meal. Any and all dips have a welcome spot on my table. I’m especially partial to a hot, cheesy dip like my sausage and beer cheese dip and chili cheese dip, but this hamburger dip is one of my absolute favorites.
You can whip this easy appetizer up in about 15 minutes and it can all be cooked in one large skillet, making clean-up easy.
So if you need a dip that will have your guests coming back for more, this ground beef dip is one I would definitely recommend.

It’s easy to adjust this hamburger dip recipe to your taste or the ingredients you might have on hand.
Protein: You can substitute with ground sausage, ground chicken, or ground turkey.
Rotel: If you prefer, you can substitute the salsa with a second can of Rotel.
Velveeta: You can substitute the cream cheese with more Velveeta cheese.
Heat: Add chopped jalapenos or use hot Rotel
Seasonings: Try substitute the seasonings with a pack of taco seasoning.
Heather’s recipe tips
- Chunky salsa. I recommend using a chunkier salsa so that the dip isn’t too watery.
- Cut in cubes. Cut the Velveeta and cream cheese in cubes to help them melt faster and evenly.
How to make in the slow cooker
This dip can be cooked in the crockpot. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet. Drain off the grease and stir in the seasonings.
Place the cooked ground beef, salsa, Rotel, cream cheese, and Velveeta in a slow cooker. Cook for 2 hours on medium until everything melts. Give the dip a good stir before serving.
How to keep ground beef dip from getting hard
If you are serving this at a party, I recommend serving it in a small slow cooker to keep in warm. This will help prevent it from becoming hard.
I also will serve this in a bowl but will not put it in a bowl until it’s time to be served. You can reheat in the microwave throughout the evening.
