If I need a dip that I know will knock the socks off my guests, this jalapeno popper dip is the one I make because it’s simple and full of flavor.

This dip tastes like you are eating jalapeno poppers but without all of the fuss of having to stuff and bacon wrap individual jalapenos.

I would consider this dip medium on the spicy scale, but don’t worry, you can easily adjust the ingredients to your taste.

You can’t go wrong with the hot, cheesy dip. It’s definitely a must make for your next party.

Jalapeno popper dip ingredients

  • Cream cheese – I like using full fat cream cheese for this recipe.
  • Mayonnaise – This adds extra creaminess to the dip.
  • Diced jalapenos – I prefer using canned, diced jalapenos but you can substitute with 3-4 fresh, seeded and diced jalapenos.
  • Diced green chile peppers – These add nice flavor to the dip without any extra heat.
  • Bacon – I use 10 slices of bacon that are cooked and crumbled. You will need some for the dip mixture and then for the top.
  • Cheddar cheese – Mild cheddar cheese is a great choice for this dip.
  • Green onions – They add flavor and color.
  • Garlic powder – Seasoning for the dip.
  • Salt and pepper
Cream cheese, bowl of mayonnaise, shredded cheese, diced green onions, crumbled bacon, cans of green chile peppers, and diced jalapenos.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Spiciness – This dip does have some heat. You can adjust the amount of diced jalapenos you use for your taste. If you want something more mild, use about 1/2 of the canned diced jalapenos.
  • Cream cheese – I recommend setting the cream cheese out a few minutes before preparing. When it’s softened, it makes it easier to combine with the other ingredients.
  • For a crowd – If you are making this for a larger crowd, you can double the recipe. If it will be out at a party, transfer the dip to a slow cooker and keep on warm for the duration of the party.

How to serve jalapeno dip

This tasty dip can be served with a variety of things. I like eating it with crackers, tortilla chips, potato chips, veggies, or small toasts.

Recipe variations

  • Shredded cheese – Mild cheddar works well with this recipe but you can substitute with shredded sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, a cheddar mixture, Mexican blend, or other cheese that melts well.
  • Topping – If you would like a crunchy topping, mix together 1 cup of crushed Ritz crackers and 1/4 cup of melted butter. Spread the topping over the dip before baking.
  • Vessel – You can make this in a cast iron skillet or scoop the cooked dip into a hollowed out sourdough bread bowl.

How to store leftovers

Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can reheat in the oven or in the microwave.
