Homemade Voodoo fries

I am a huge fan of Wingstop, especially the fries, but sometimes I don’t feel like going out and just want to stay home in my sweatpants. And since Ubereats isn’t available where I live, I make my own copycat Wingstop recipes at home.

This recipe came about after I made a batch of my copycat cajun Wingstop fries. All I needed to add is creamy cheese sauce and some homemade Wingstop ranch to make this easy voodoo fries recipe.

With a little bit of experimenting, I think I came up with a copycat recipe that tastes similar to the restaurant.

I like to serve these alongside copycat lemon pepper wings or Louisiana wings.

Why you’ll love these voodoo fries

There are so many great reasons to make copycat recipes at home. Some reasons I love this recipe include:

  • Customizable – You can easily adjust the amount of cheese, ranch, and seasoning with this recipe.
  • Taste – These fries are packed with flavor, especially with the cajun seasoning.
  • Budget friendly – You can make a big batch of these fries for a fraction of the cost of a restaurant.

Louisiana Voodoo fries ingredients

This recipe is made up of a few components, the fries, seasoning, cheese sauce, and ranch.

  • French fries – You can use frozen french fries or homemade fries.
  • Seasoning – One thing that makes these fries so good is making sure they are seasoned. You can use a premade cajun seasoning or the homemade version below.
  • Cheese sauce – For the cheese sauce you will need butter, flour, milk, and a good quality cheddar cheese. You can also substitute with this simple cheese sauce recipe.
  • Ranch – You can use bottled ranch dressing or homemade ranch.

Variations and substitutions

The best thing about cooking at home is that you can adjust the recipe to your taste.

Fries – Feel free to use your favorite french fries or even sweet potato fries. These are great with waffle fries, steak fries, even tater tots.

Cheese sauce – I am using cheddar cheese to make the sauce but you can substitute with white cheddar cheese. If you are in a hurry, you can also substitute with jarred cheese sauce that has been warmed.

Ranch – You can substitute ranch with blue cheese dressing, buffalo ranch, blackened ranch, or even BBQ ranch.

Seasoning – If you would like a spicier seasoning, add a little more cayenne pepper. You can also substitute with premade cajun seasoning.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Don’t use pre-shredded cheese to make the sauce. You want to use a good quality cheese.
  • When making the cheese sauce, make sure keep the temperature on medium-low when making the roux and to remove the roux from the heat before mixing in the cheese. This will help prevent grainy cheese sauce.
  • Make sure to wait to add the cheese sauce until you are ready to eat. If you add it too early, it can make the fries soggy.

What to serve with Louisiana Voodoo fries

These fries are great served with a variety of things. Try serving with:

How to store leftovers

It’s hard to store leftover fries because the fries start to become soggy with the cheese sauce. I would recommend trying to store each component separately in the refrigerator if possible.

You can reheat the french fries in the oven or air fryer and warm up the cheese sauce on low heat on the stove.
