Ingredients needed for breakfast sauce
Every wonder what McDonald’s breakfast sauce is made of? You might be surprised its made with just a few simple ingredients you might already have in your kitchen.
- Mayonnaise – You can use your favorite mayonnaise.
- Mustard – Yellow mustard is needed for this sauce recipe.
- Steak Sauce – I am using A1 steak sauce but use your favorite.
- Lemon Juice – This helps add a little acidity and tangy flavor to the sauce.
- Dried Dill Weed – Fresh dill can also be substituted for dried.
- Salt & Pepper – Sea salt and ground black pepper adds seasoning and flavor. Adjust the amount to taste.
How to make Copycat McDonald’s Breakfast Sauce Recipe
Step one: Place mayonnaise, mustard, steak sauce, lemon juice, dill, salt, and pepper in a small mixing bowl. Stir well with a spoon or whisk to combine.
Step two: You can serve immediately or place it in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator to let the flavors come together.
Recipe tips and variations
Portions: This recipe makes about 1 cup. If you would like more for the week, you can easily double the recipe ingredients.

Entirely too mustardy. It’s a good breakfast sauce, but it doesn’t taste like McDonald’s like advertised

As for my recommendation, I used a McDonald’s honey mustard cup and used a smidge less mayonnaise and it was almost exactly like it! (Not as bright yellow as the actual sauce though).

This is awesome. Thank you for this. I been making breakfast sandwiches for years an years. This brought it to another level of greatness. I did cut the mustard in half cause of a review. I think this is better than McDonald’s. You can control how much you put on it.
Still unsure of what steak sauce to use. It looks almost exactly like it, just should be more runny, which can easily be adjusted. As for taste, it’s not 100% even with the ingredients mentioned, but you have to take into account the brand of mayo/sauce/mustard you’re using.
I will not stop until I get that exact sauce down, even if I have to beg the McDonald’s CEO for the recipe myself. Feel free to contact me for my alternative recipes.

Mcdonalds sources all of their own ingredients. Meaning you can’t get the brands they use. It’s not available for consumers. How ever you can just buy the sauce from McDonald’s. They sell all of their food items in bulk
I used Worcestershire sauce and Hellman’s real mayonnaise and some regular yellow mustard it was really good but I accidentally salted it too much

I made the sauce exactly as specified, and used (like you) a-1 sauce, but did not have yellow mustard, so used Dijon. First taste of sauce immediately after blending was not at all like McDonalds bagel sauce. I’m going to put it together for dinner with egg and cheese and see how that goes. Here’s hoping it morphs into something wonderful, because the best part of the McD bagel sandwich is definitely the sauce. Theirs is yellow; this one turned out more brownish, probably because I did not use French’s yellow mustard, or could be the a-1. I’ll see later. Thanks for the recipe.
Hi Rosemary, respectfully, this isn’t a fair review if you didn’t use the same ingredients as the recipe.
EXACTLY my point every time someone uses substitutes that aren’t even in the same flavor profiles. Dijon has a distinctly horseradish flavoring. Not a great choice at all… I think A-1 has a strangely raisin flavor that probably would not match the sauce’s nuanced sweetness.
I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS YET. I will try to make it an decide whether or not to comment on the recipe then.
At one time I had found an amazing recipe for this sauce and lost it. I have been looking for another sauce mix but have not found one that was even close. Yours is close but not like the previous one. I do know it had the mayonnaise and it used a whole grain mustard, dill and a small amount of sugar. Yours is the closest one I have found. Thank you!
What ever you do dont use lemon extract
I was out of lemons so I tried to substitute with lemon extract lol it was basically lemon breakfast sause 😛

Not bad flavor however, it doesn’t taste like the sauce I’ve had on McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches. I think less mustard would make it even better. It’s very mustardy.
There is actually a creamy dill mustard you can buy. I bet that is the key ingredient. I’m going to try that with this recipe.
I made exactly as listed. It tastes kind of like what you would put in potato salad or deviled eggs with 2 tablespoons of mustard. After you have for a while it calms down. Going to make again with 1 Tablespoon.
I made the sauce today because I wanted to make an epic at home breakfast sandwich. I had all the ingredients in the fridge, except for the dried dill, so I used oregano and I also added red pepper chili flakes. Honestly it was so good! Definitely tasted like the McDonald’s sauce, I could’ve used a little bit less lemon juice. Overall I’m going to make this sauce again it was a tasty alternative to a basic mayonnaise or butter.
