I grew up eating pizza bagels at least once a week. With busy school days and after-school activities, they were the perfect quick and satisfying snack.

Now my kids love eating these homemade pizza bagels. We try having a pizza night at least a couple times a month and when we are short on time, using bagels instead of dough makes it so much easier.

One of my favorite things to do is set out a variety of different toppings in bowls and letting the kids build their own creations. It’s fun to get them involved and makes dinner feel like a special event.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Use fresh bagels. Try not to use stale bagels for the best texture and flavor.
  • Spread the sauce in a thin layer. Don’t use too much sauce or they will become soggy.
  • Line your baking sheet. I like using foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Variations

One thing I love about this pizza bagel recipe is that you can really make it your own with different toppings. You can also use different flavored bagels instead of plain. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Meat: pepperoni, diced ham, cooked sausage, cooked bacon, cooked ground beef.
  • Vegetables: Diced peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes
  • Cheese: Try different cheese like colby jack, provolone, monterey jack, or even pepper jack cheese.
  • Bagels: Use different flavored bagels like onion, jalapeno, or everything bagels.

Serving suggestions

If you want to make this a full meal, try serving with a simple house salad or even this grinder salad.

I also like serving my pizza bagels with dipping sauces like Wingstop ranch or this copycat Papa Johns garlic butter.
