Refried bean dip is sure to be the star of your next gathering. An easy, flavorful appetizer that can be made in about 5 minutes. Creamy, cheesy, and so delicious, this hot bean dip is just what you need for your next party, game day, or gathering.

Bean dip is on repeat at our house all year long. It’s so easy to make and the perfect thing to serve with tacos, on game day, or just for a fun snack.

We love this refried bean dip for so many reasons including being fast to make, easily customizable, and just one of the best bean dips ever!

Ingredients

To make this easy bean dip you will need a few simple ingredients including:

  • Refried beans – A can of refried beans makes this dip so easy. You can also use homemade refried beans.
  • Cream cheese – Adds a creamy texture to the dip.
  • Sour cream – Sour cream adds a nice flavor to this dip recipe. You can substitute plain Greek yogurt.
  • Taco seasoning – Use your favorite taco seasonings to add some fiesta flavor.
  • Salsa – I recommend using chunky style salsa for this recipe.
  • Cheese – Shredded cheese adds great flavor and texture. Use shredded cheddar cheese, colby jack, or a Mexican blend.
  • Optional – You can top with additional shredded cheese, green onions, diced jalapeno, black olives, chopped fresh cilantro, diced red onions, and more.

How to make refried bean dip

Step one: Place the refried beans, cream cheese, sour cream, salsa, taco seasonings, and cheese in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Step two: Stir to combine and heat the mixture through.

Pot with refried beans and sour cream.

Step three: Once the dip has warmed, transfer to a serving dish.

Other cooking methods

This bean dip recipe can also be prepared in the microwave, in the oven, and in the slow cooker.

Microwave: Place all of the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl. Heat for about 3 minutes. Make sure to stir halfway through.

Oven: Combine the ingredients in a bowl or on the stove. Spread in an 8 x 8 casserole dish and top with extra shredded cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Slow cooker: Place the ingredients in a slow cooker and cook for about 2 hours. Stir before serving.

Tips for success

  • Like your dip extra spicy? Add a few splashes of your favorite hot sauce.
  • Add some shredded chicken or some ground beef for a hearty dip.

How to serve bean dip

Serve this dip with chips like tortilla chips, corn chips, or even potato chips. It’s also great with crackers and cut up vegetables.

Store

Keep any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay good for about 3 days. Reheat on the stove, in the microwave, or in the oven.

Want to save this dip for later? It can be frozen for about 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat.
