The season of spring break and soon to be summer vacation has arrived. That means road trips! Here are few road trip tips that will help you and your family prepare to spend some time in the car.
Thank you Crispy Green for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
We just returned from a spring break road trip and are gearing up for a few getaways in the summer. Having three young kids means that being organized and prepared is a must before starting the car and heading out on a road trip. Here are a few of my favorite road trip tips.
How To Prepare For A Road Trip
Car Care
Before you head out on the open road be sure to get the car checked and serviced. I like to make sure that our minivan is up to date with an oil change, has good windshield wipers and the tire pressure is correct. It’s also a good idea to have the car washed and vacuumed before you start filling it with luggage.
Last but not least, make sure to have an emergency car kit with jumper cables, spare tire, and roadside assistance information.
Healthy Snacks
Having a supply of snacks for a road trip is one of the most important tips in my opinion. My kids always seem to be extra hungry when we are in the car. Having these snack kits for them is a great way to have different snack options all in one place. Check out the video below to see how easy it is to make your own snack kit.
My favorite snack to include is Crispy Fruit from Crispy Green. Crispy Fruit is the number one freeze dried fruit brand. They freeze dry fresh fruit to lock in the fruits nutrients and flavor without any added sugar, sweeteners or additives. The fruit has an amazing light and crisp texture that snacks like a chip. Crispy Fruit is a wonderful all-natural snack I feel good about my family eating.
Snack kit ideas:
- Crispy Fruit: They come in 7 delicious flavors: Banana, Pineapple, Asian Pear, Mango, Tangerine, Apple and Cantaloupe.
- Pretzels
- Sunflower Seeds or Nuts
- Carrot Sticks
- Cookies or Crackers
I also make up a bin of snacks for me and my husband in the front. We like to snack too! 🙂
Things to do
Before we leave for a trip I let the kids pick out a few books and small toys to put in a bin that we keep between their seats. We also will load their electronic devices with a few learning games and maybe a short movie or show. Ideas for car entertainment:
- Colored pencils and coloring book
- Books
- Small toys
- Stuffed animals
Emergency Kit
You never know when someone is going to need a bandage or might start to feel sick. I like to keep an emergency kit in the car, especially when we are going on a trip. I purchased a cheap container to keep everything in one place. Here are some items we like to have in the kit:
- Bandages
- Sterile Wipes
- Antihistamine Cream
- Allergy Medicine
- Tissues
- Pain Medication
- Sunscreen
- Trash Bag
Have Fun
Most important – have fun! Road trips are a great way to spend time with your family, ask questions and really learn more about each other.
