Turkey roll ups are my go-to when I need something delicious to pack for a cold lunch or an appetizer that I know everyone is going to love. They are easy to prepare and I love that the recipe can be made ahead of time so they are ready to go the next day.

After experimenting with different flavor combinations for the pinwheels, I ended up with the simple combination of sun dried tomatoes, green onion, and cream cheese. There are many ways to add flavor to turkey pinwheels, but my sun dried tomato filling is my favorite. It’s so full of flavor while adding beautiful color.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Simple: Roll ups, or pinwheels, are a delicious and easy appetizer. They take about 10 minutes to make.
  • Bursting with flavor: Sun dried tomatoes add the perfect amount of tang and flavor to every bite.
  • Make ahead friendly: Great to make ahead for a tasty lunch of a party.
  • Customizable: You can easily change or adjust the ingredients to your taste.

Ingredients

  • Tortillas – I like using flour tortillas for this recipe. Burrito size works well because you can get more roll ups out of that size. You can substitute with smaller tortillas if needed.
  • Turkey – Use your favorite sliced deli turkey for these roll-ups.
  • Cheese – Swiss cheese adds great flavor to these roll-ups.
  • Cream cheese – You can use low-fat or full fat cream cheese. Make sure that it is softened so that it’s easier to spread.
  • Sun dried tomatoes – These can be found in a jar packed in oil. Make sure to chop them up into smaller pieces.
  • Green onion – Adds color and flavor to the cream cheese spread.
  • Lettuce – Green leaf or Romaine lettuce work well for this recipe. You could even substitute or add in spinach for some extra green.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Make ahead: You can make these pinwheels the night before serving them.
  • Store: Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last up to 3 days.
  • Servings: This makes about 12 roll ups but you can double or triple the recipe for a larger crowd.

Variations

  • Cream cheese: You can use full fat or low fat cream cheese. Try adding different flavors like ranch seasoning, or mix in cranberry sauce to make copycat Costco turkey roll ups.
  • Deli meat and cheese: Easily change these roll-ups with different meat and cheese like roast beef, ham, chicken, provolone, cheddar, or American cheese.
  • Seasonings: If you would like to add more flavor you can mix in 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder or a tablespoon of ranch seasonings with the cream cheese mixture.
  • Tortillas: Try using a whole grain tortillas, spinach tortilla, or even a low-carb tortilla.

Storage

Common questions

Do these have to chill before slicing?

You don’t have to but I do recommend letting them chill at least 30 minutes before slicing. This helps to keep them nice and neat. It also helps the pinwheel hold together.

Can I double the recipe?

Yes, if you are making this for a large crowd, you can easily double or triple the recipe.

  1. I am assuming you add the chopped green onions to the cream cheese mix as well? It never says what to do with them!
