Heather’s recipe tips

  • Soften the cream cheese. I like to set my cream cheese out at room temperature for about 30 minutes before preparing the dip. It just helps to make it nice and creamy when mixing.
  • Dice the onion small. I recommend dicing the onion as small as possible. You could even grate it with a cheese grater to get it extra small.
  • Shred your own cheese. If possible, I definitely recommend shredded your own Swiss cheese for the best flavor.
  • Serve warm. This baked onion dip is best served warm for the ultimate creaminess.

Variations

  • Bacon: If you want to add a little something extra, I like adding cooked, crumbled bacon to the dip.
  • Spice: You can add a little spicy head by including a dash of hot sauce to the dip mixture or some red pepper flakes.
  • Cheese: If you don’t like Swiss cheese, you can substitute with cheddar cheese or a blend of cheeses.
