Servings: 6
- 1 8 ounce cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 10 pieces bacon, chopped
- 2 cups mild cheddar cheese, shredded
- 4 green onions, diced
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch pie plate or 8x8 casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Chop the bacon into small pieces. Cook in a medium size pan over medium heat until cooked.
Pour the bacon pieces on a paper towel lined plate to drain any grease.
In a large bowl, mix together softened cream cheese, sour cream, and garlic powder with an electric mixer.
Stir in 1 cup of the shredded cheese, half of the bacon pieces, and half of the diced green onions.
Spread the mixture in the prepared dish. Top with the remaining shredded cheese and bacon. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese has melted.
Top with remaining diced green onion and serve warm.
- Soften the cream cheese. This is probably the most important tip. Softening the cream cheese helps everything to be smooth and no lumps.
- Don't use pre-shredded cheese. Shredded a block of cheese will give you the best taste and the cheese will melt better. If you are in a pinch you can use pre-shredded cheese but I recommend trying to shred your own.
- Double the recipe. If you are serving this dip to a larger crowd, you can easily double the recipe.
